The Berkshire town of Newbury lies on the banks of the River Kennet as well as being bisected by the Kennet and Avon Canal. Newbury is famed for the many seventeenth century buildings that populate its town centre which, along with its rural surroundings and many green spaces, give it a slightly timeless quality that makes it a very desirable place to live.
The largest employer in the town is telecommunications company Vodafone, which has its world headquarters in Newbury, as well as being home to several major international pharmaceutical and engineering firms.
The town's long heritage can be sampled at the West Berkshire Museum that finds its home beside the canal within the charming former mill and granary building known as Newbury Wharf. The museum hosts exhibitions covering anything from local involvement in the English Civil War to the history of Hot Air Ballooning.
